SS11 Predictions

List of predicted trends for SS11…

In many collections, colours for SS11 have been named after flowers. Most used the pastel shades and neutral tones of beiges, pinks, blues and yellows which have been used to create a more subtle pallet for the warmer seasons. Read on to find out some of what you will be wearing…

70’s Glamour – Think sophisticated and vintage; flares (see bell bottoms below), oversized sunglasses, tucked in Tee’s and denim.

60’s Ladylike – Kitten heels, waist cinching belts, gloves and a beehive.

Tail Hems – (Dresses longer at the back) – These made their way onto the catwalk in Topshop Unique and Denis Basso. Shaped by each designer, the look can be of different lengths and angles and shaped into pleats or drapes. Seen in tail hem tops in AW10, the trend has spread to SS11. I like the way they are playful and revealing yet still manage to hold on to an elegance in the length at the back.

Bell Bottoms – (Ahem!) The return of the flared jeans! For seasons the skinny jean has ruled and become a woman’s wardrobe staple. I don’t think they will be going away anytime soon, however the flare has a grown up edge to it that the skinny jean lacks in my opinion. Make sure they are good fitting and dark for instant weight loss with bigger pockets at the back; higher waisted for the more fashion conscious or low-rise for a casual chic look… See Derek Lam and Adam’s SS11 collections for inspiration.

Nautical Stripes – As always with SS fashion this is the look that, if you are going for it, should dominate the outfit. Use one key piece be it bold, thin, black, navy or colourful stripes á la Moschino to prove you’re on trend with either a tail hem Tee, a tunic or a fitted jacket. The look can also work clashed with florals, which too will be set to make a return into SS trends. See Vanessa Jackman’s collections for ultimate sailor cool. LLLB
