Edun – SS12 Collection

For the Spring Summer 2012 Women’s Collection Edun juxtaposes iconic floral and African prints, bringing two contrasting worlds together in signature Edun style.

The SS12 collection is truly feminine. Mesh knit cardigans, indigo dyed drawstring pants, hemp recycled poly gabardine jackets and jersey braided scarves accompanied by lazer cut silks and poplin, tie wrap dresses and grommet details unite together in pure summer spirit.

The modern edge is visible in sexy dresses with sporty elements, leather trimmed skirt and bold denim made in Africa.
This collection specializes in the indigo dying techniques of West Africa in Mali, using natural sapphire dyes and minerals to create beautiful and unique textile designs.

Finally, the spring collection introduces an African T-Shirt program in partnership with H.E.A.L.S (Health, Education, Arts, Literacy, Sports), an art therapy program for war affected teenagers in Gulu, Uganda. Each T-shirt features a drawing by a high school students’ aspiration for the future. 100% of the proceeds will be split between H.E.A.L.S. and Invisible Children.

For SS12 Holly Fulton has produced a collection for the lady that having blown her annual budget takes a vacation a little closer to home. In full holiday spirit and dressed for Vegas – she hits Margate. A keen eye on the arcades, indulging in the plethora of fruit machines and casinos, her handbag is decidedly ready to hoard any winnings. She frolics between gaudy neon lights and saccharine sands, asserting her right to be a bathing belle, and is not adverse to a donkey ride either.

This latest collection draws inspiration from Slim Aarons’ photographs of the US poolside scene from the late 1960s and 70s, the Albertus Seba Cabinet of Curiosities and Margate’s Deco Lido. Colour references echo soft, aged pastels inspired by 1980s pin ball machines, through to the vibrant-pop of Fiorucci fused with monochrome chessboards and checks. With a nod to signature Pucci and the decadence of early Versace circa 1990, prints are layered and embellished to create a look reminiscent of seaside souvenirs. Shell encrusted jewellery and bags, insets of shell laminate in a variety of plastics and Perspex blend to sit perfectly with Holly’s graphic aesthetic creating a visually striking yet harmonious collection. The resulting look is a hybrid Shelley Winters/C.Z.Guest decked out in head-to-toe nineties-esque Versace paired with excessive nautical jewellery and a hint of Sharon Stone in Scorsese’s Casino.

The collection is a joyous celebration of contemporary materials and design sprinkled with considerable frivolity and tongue in cheek elements. Signature cuts, considered placement and elaborate beading result in a striking and refreshing collection. All detailing executed with an air of luxury and consolidation of colour, forming the bold aesthetic with which the Holly Fulton label has become synonymous.

The search comes to an end with Unsigned Model Scouts, including head scout Cesar Perin, hitting the streets of London on the 2nd and 3rd of September, where potential faces will be scouted and sent to the SWAROVSKI CRYSTALLIZED Cafe at 24 Great Marlborough Street for exclusive open castings.

The Unsigned Model Search with SWAROVSKI CRYSTALLIZED™ is looking for two new faces – one female and one male – who will start their journey into the world of high-fashion with the SS12 SWAROVSKI CRYSTALLIZED™campaign.  Through the Unsigned model search, the new faces will have the chance to be shot by world renowned photographer Helena Christensen.

The 12 finalists, selected by Helena Christensen, photographer Mariano Vivanco, Hercules Magazine Editor’s David Vivirido & Francesco Sourigues, and model Robert Konjic, will be announced during Vogue Fashion’s Night Out on 8th September.
