All You Need Is Love

” Too much of a good thing is wonderful”

Continuing the Battle of the Boutiques, here is another little gem I found!

Free Love Boutique was created by sisters, Joni and Katie Free, opening its doors in October 2005 on the beautiful island of Guernsey.

Each piece from every collection has been individually selected by the girls, who pride themselves on bringing new and exciting labels to Free Love for their valued and loyal customers to enjoy. So, whether it be that little black dress, gorgeous evening gown, sweet summer’s day frock, must-have clutch bag… or the, ‘can’t bear to walk away from’, dream pair of shoes… Free Love holds that something special just for you.

I’ve selected my favourites below!

This gorgeous crochet top and printed skirt are perfect for following the summer trend of pastels and feminine style. Show them off with a plain other half such as white trousers or a colour blocked tee and some ‘of the moment’ summer cork wedges.

Pair with: Tea and crumpets.

Darling Willa Top in Taupe £65, Darling Bridgette skirt in Spring Green £49.95.

As seen above, pair this colour block studded dress with a cropped jacket to add a rougher edge. Try a black biker jacket or brown suede style for a different take on the pretty dress.

Pair with: Vampy, kiss me now lips.

Almost Famous Spray Studded Dress in Orange £116.

With its floaty fabric and dainty ruffles, this LBD is the answer to your summer prayers. Light enough to keep cool and stylish enough to stay hot! Pair with bare legs and dainty heels.

Almost Famous Chiffon Pleated collar Dress in Black £122.

This large leopard print shoulder bag with patent trim and handles and gold buckle detail would work well with the above blue ruffle dress to add a hint of colour and pattern to a somewhat plain outfit.

Suzy Smith Iridessa Leopard Print Shoulder Bag £75.

This is my all time favourite item from Free Love due to its simplicity and expensive looking design, you can imagine A-Listers strutting the red carpet in it. The nude maxi encapsulates the feminine trend of summer perfectly with the draped fabric and sweetheart neckline.

Wear with: A single row of pearls or gold drop earings. Nothing more, nothing less.

Jarlo Yolanda Maxi Dress £85.

The nautical trend is still as present as ever and with this Henri Lloyd Elena Cardigan in Navy, £78 , you can follow it on through summer and Autumn too.

Wear with: wide legged jeans and a white ruffle top.

Don’t neglect what you think people wont see! Free Love’s ‘Haylie’ chiffon shoe boots in blush are stunning and will show of a great pedicure and glistening tan wonderfully. The peeptoes with sheer rouched upper, featuring a ruffle down the front, are ideal for updating a simple dress this summer, and are perfect for all the summer weddings people are having!

Chinese Laundry Haylie Chiffon Shoes in Blush £80

My favourite from the collection is this elegant strapless light gold chiffon maxi dress. With it’s rouche detail on the bust and floaty fabric it is sure to be my summer lust have! Pair with accessories in similar nudes from the collection to keep the focus on the dress.

Triangle Strap Dress £90

Classic Crystal Gem Dress £140

If you’re going to invest in one bag this season invest in the clutch.

Here Evevee presents two stunning clutches in royal eye-catching colours; royal red and vivid blue

If you’re not sure how to wear such bright shades of red and blue then these clutches are prefect for incorporating a splash of colour into your Summer outfit. The twisted elegant designs of layered fabric give another dimension to them, taking them away from boring flat styles of latter day, instead injecting detail and femininity.

But if you are not ready for that colour pop yet, take a look at the other styles on the website. These include cut out, one shouldered and strapless nude numbers in floaty layers or prom style black evening dresses. The red strapless satin dress from the collection (above) and a black twisted front clutch (red version shown above) arrived for me today! The fabric on both clearly shows the brands lavishness and sensuous taste and the fit is like a glove! If it’s good enough for Evevee…

Emporio Armani Woman A/W

In the style of a film noir, beauty is concealed behind a pair of dark
glasses and under a hat tilted over the forehead to suggest a hidden
mystery. This enigma is heightened by the perception of a life without
frontiers, according to a plot that follows an aesthetic journey between
different worlds. A precisely defined vision, treated ironically to give an
effortless and contemporary image. A stylish take on international
espionage, travelling through time and distance, referencing the beat of
great nightclubs and the silence of famous hotels.

Total Black

Total black, with a flash of arctic white: a colour combination that
explores the interplay of light, shape and proportion. In this way each
outfit becomes an end in itself, telling a personal story through the matt
density of the cloth, the sheen of the velvet, the light touch of Mongolian
fur and the restraint of eco fur.

Seductive and practical jumpsuits, with full trousers cut as sharp as a
blade to emphasise the long, fluid silhouette. With raw-edge finishes and
sculpted jackets featuring concealed or covered buttons. Just a single
element of colour – the palest pink of bare legs worn without tights, of a
scooped neckline, and of gloveless hands clutching perfectly designed bags.

Michael Van Der Ham

For Autumn/Winter 2011 Michael Van Der Ham redefines his unique aesthetic presenting his second standalone show with the coveted New Gen scheme.

The new season sees his diverse collage technique being refined and honed to a focused exploration of the qualities of singular fabrics. In splicing and placing alternating grains of velvet he presents to us an exciting and innovative interpretation of the traditional fabric.

Typical to his individual working practice Van Der Ham is not influenced by a particular framework of reference from popular culture. Instead he fuses a curiosity of silhouettes from past eras with a precise concern for innovative cutting techniques to create paradoxical garments that are both timelessly elegant and startlingly original.

Complementing the dresses Van Der Ham has become renowned for, AW 2011 sees the introduction of knitwear, taking inspiration from archives of vintage floral prints. The prints have been cleverly reworked into fine Italian jacquard knitted dresses, cardigans and tops with highlights of gold and silver Lurex.

An introduction of outerwear to the collection this season sees Van Der Ham’s collage technique applied to sartorial classics. Dusky pink and black mohair coats and jackets are given the Van der Ham treatment with no two sleeves the same on each piece. This twist on conventional outerwear once again emphasises Van der Ham’s distinct signature and asserts his pioneering vision of fusing classic shapes with intellectual, innovative cutting and placement.

Autumn Winter 11 sees Van Der Ham’s work enter a new chapter with a presentation that delivers a more austere, sophisticated edge yet remains faithful to the playful, intelligent charm he is much admired for.

A truly breathtaking show. LLLB

French/Senegalese Model Sacha M’baye wearing Burberry

Arguably his best collection yet, Christopher Bailey stunned at the Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2011 Womenswear show yesterday. The polished collection, whose line of celebrity followers were out in force, has been named ‘Shrimpton’ after swinging Brit model and fashion icon Jean Shrimpton.

The collection which was paraded down a snow filled catwalk, consisted of sculptures silhouettes, volumised outerwear in English heritage tweeds, oversized crop cape jackets in hand woven high wool twists, flat front cropped trousers and window cut out dresses with engineered stitching. Detail was key and focs was on cables, leather buttons, leather rope martingales, gathered back pleats, luggage stitching and multi tiered cuffs and so much more!

It seems the celebs took to the iconic Burberry trenchcoat too for the show! His timeless pieces seem to be endless, season after season failing to impress, it doesn’t surprise me he returns with another fabulous collection for AW11.

The show ended with the army of wellie-clad models strutting their stylish selves down the runway. Now if that isn’t entertainment…

And the music: Someone Like You: Adele, You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me, and You Don’t Own Me, Dusty Springfield, It’s A Har dLife, Roger Daltry.

What a show. LLLB

Hollywood Glamour

Let it hang…in draped silky fabrics that is.

Satin is at its most beautiful in dark or earthy demure colours like the ones above. The more layers and folds the better because it’s not the most flattering if tight-fitting! LLLB
