Summer Trends

 3 Trends I’m Loving This Summer…

And think you should too!

1.

They are so laid back and casually stylish which makes them incredibly difficult to get wrong!

Shirts from M&S, Jane Norman, Mint Velvet, La Redoute

2.

Whenever I buy new trends I tend to neglect my bottom half, instead opting for the basics like jeans, skirts or chinos – these patterned shorts can go with my basic wear this summer and incorporate the trend in a new way than before – great for festivals too!

Shorts both from Yogoego

3.

What would we do without them in the summer sun?!

Sunglasses from Internacional, Primark, Accessorize, Jacamo SS11 menswear

A Snapshot of your Summer

Your Six Summer Essentials…

1. A Floppy Hat – This scarf cloche hat £20 from Monsoon is perfect for covering up your face in the sun and your sun lounger hair!

*
2. A Bag to fit all your essentials in – This Brigette Satchel Bag £77 from French Connection screams summer cruises around the med!

*
3. Some light summer Wedges – Because you can last longer in them than stilettos and they look much more chic in the warmer weather, (They also make your legs look thinner because of their chunkiness! Result!)  Giggles Wedges, Dune – £85.

 *

4. A Blouse – The  slouchy blouse look with tight trousers or jungle shorts is a summer staple. This Miso Double Button Blouse from Republic, £26.99, is ideal for warm days and cool evening dressed up or down or thrown over a bikini.

*

5. A Maxi Dress – The best thing about maxi dresses are they cover a multitude of sins if you chose the right style and fabric, pair it with a top and a belt and it can pass as a skirt too! Tribal print maxi dress £55 M&Co.

*

6. Shorts have made a come back again this Summer – These paperbag waist tie belt shorts £32 from Jane Norman are so on trend with the waist detailing and safari colour.

Biker Jackets – Show Your Wild Side

Wondering how to wear the biker jacket trend without looking like an addition to the Hells Angels?

It can be worn at night over a mini dress for a glam-rock look like the models at fashion week or during the day with skinny jeans and blouses or plain t-shirts like Kate Moss. Why not go in the opposite direction by wearing it over girly summer dresses too, in honour of Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller! You just need to make the outfit work for you and that begins with buying the right one.

Buy a good fabric leather – It will last longer and give a softer feel which will move with you rather than against you.

What can you wear it with?  – The jacket will only be an investment if you will wear it with what you have already, you shouldn’t have to buy a wardrobe around it.

Buy the right style – There are harsh versions out there with logo’s and studs on but also light girly versions too – think cropped, fringed and worn styles.

Wearing it with total opposites could ruin your look – DON’T wear with silk or the obvious Converse or studded boots. Instead put with plain pieces – think GAP and Topshop basics.

Here are the jackets I’ve chosen for this ultra cool-stylish look. All from Mint Velvet.

Who are Mint Velvet?

The Mint Velvet story began with three women, inspired by a desire for something new, setting out to create a collection which was both relaxed and glamorous, and felt luxe without the price tag.  All modern working mothers, they wanted to create something by women for women, which fit in with their lifestyle and made them feel confident and sexy.

“Liz, Jane and Lisa, who are behind Mint Velvet, have achieved so much in such a short time, particularly considering the set up was in the midst of the recession, and are truly iconic figures to other women wishing to start up in business.  They make work life fun and interesting – everyone who works for Mint Velvet adores the brand and the team.  It’s great environment to work in.”

Less than 2 years old and the brand continues to strive to provide a collection which is all about “attitude over age” reflecting women’s busy modern lifestyles.  Starting initially with a handful of House of Fraser concessions, Mint Velvet now operates from over 70 outlets.  The brand currently has 4 boutique stores, House of Fraser, John Lewis and Fenwick concessions in selected stores as well as other luxury Independent Department stores, and a fully transactional website.
